One of the classic, and in many ways exciting, tasks facing a graphic designer is the design of product packaging.

There are many constraints, often apparently in conflict, and so the determination of a satisfactory solution can be particularly satisfying. Factors requiring consideration might include the ease and cost of manufacture of the package; the need to include instructions and information without detracting from the visual appeal; the need to adhere to legislation; the need for illustrating the product in such a way that recognition will be fast; the need for point-of-sale display; the design constraints of the company's corporate identity; and the need to protect the product itself during handling and storage.
