John studied art and design at Beckenham under the guidance of art teacher Owen Frampton (father of rock guitarist, Peter).
After an apprentice period with major London advertising agencies, John spent five years in Australia. Becoming increasingly aware of the separate function of graphic design in the communication mix, he finally crossed over to a local design group: and returned as a freelance designer to the UK in 1968.
John set up his first design studio in 1970 in Covent Garden. After 14 years John moved the studio to its
present docklands location, 200 metres downstream
from Tower Bridge.
John was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers in 1981
